[00:00:00] Speaker A: You know I'm gonna go to Harbor Freight. You know I am, bro.
[00:00:02] Speaker B: We going to. You ain't going to Harbor Freight without me, dog. Bro, don't think you already got them
[00:00:06] Speaker A: little toolboxes that they sell.
[00:00:09] Speaker B: Just saying. I bet those are on sale because we got them for 30 bucks, bro.
Yeah. Yeah.
[00:00:15] Speaker A: We're gonna do that.
[00:00:19] Speaker B: Twinning in the city.
[00:00:20] Speaker A: Aloha.
[00:00:21] Speaker B: Thc. We gotta create a starter kit for people. Man. I think they out here lost. They are lost. Yes.
[00:00:26] Speaker A: Starter kit for what?
[00:00:28] Speaker B: First time homeowner or on your. On your own tool? Starter kit.
[00:00:34] Speaker A: You gonna make me cry right now.
[00:00:35] Speaker B: Tool starter kit. It is. It's needed, dog. You know how. Think about how many tools probably you and I have wasted money on time on and have just overall missed out on opportunities to just get it done the first time in the right time. All because we didn't do it the initial start. And when you get your own house, you're going to always need these tools. Yeah. Invest early. Yeah. Rather than later.
[00:01:01] Speaker A: Even if you. Even if you live in an apartment.
[00:01:02] Speaker B: Exactly. That's what I'm saying.
[00:01:03] Speaker A: I don't want to say first home.
[00:01:04] Speaker B: It's.
[00:01:05] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:01:05] Speaker B: I don't know the term. But it's the starter kit of tools. Basically on your own. You ain't got dad or mom's house anymore. Grandpa's house. You need these tools. You're going to always need them. But there are also tools out there that department stores will try to get you to buy that you don't need yet. That's way beyond your years of advancement. You don't know what you gon need.
[00:01:26] Speaker A: Gotcha.
[00:01:27] Speaker B: There's tools. There's tools. You have that somebody that just got a house ain't gonna need.
[00:01:31] Speaker A: Nope.
[00:01:31] Speaker B: But they'll try to make them think they will.
[00:01:33] Speaker A: I got a lot of them.
[00:01:34] Speaker B: Yeah. So I didn't have to make no damn list.
[00:01:36] Speaker A: So you. So now you just want basic. Basic.
[00:01:39] Speaker B: These are the basic.
[00:01:39] Speaker A: Basic. This is what you should have in your house.
[00:01:42] Speaker B: Yes. Okay. Like if you gonna spend money, spend money on this. And I also want to get your take on the brand you should probably get as a starter kit. We've had an episode before already about brands and quality. As a first person. We ain't trying to have you break the bank.
[00:01:57] Speaker A: Right.
[00:01:58] Speaker B: Right. But this is what you need. I didn't even make a damn list because I'm so confident you and I can build this starter kit easily. Okay.
By default.
Hammer.
[00:02:08] Speaker A: Hold on. Hold on.
[00:02:08] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:02:09] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:02:09] Speaker B: Back it up. Okay.
[00:02:10] Speaker A: Excuse Me you went, you went too fast.
[00:02:12] Speaker B: Okay, okay.
[00:02:12] Speaker A: Cause what you gonna put the hammer in?
[00:02:14] Speaker B: Ah, tool bag. Tool bag or toolbox? Toolbox.
[00:02:19] Speaker A: Okay, that's where you start.
[00:02:20] Speaker B: Toolbox preference does not matter. Doesn't it does not matter. But I try to tell you. But it doesn't.
[00:02:25] Speaker A: But if you get one that has one of them ones like get find a toolbox. It's not expensive, but when you open it, it has a top tray that you can take the tray out of. Make sure it comes with that tray and I'm gonna tell you it. You might not understand why it makes sense now, but it'll make sense later once you get more and more tools that you're putting inside the box. So yeah, toolbox first because you got
[00:02:46] Speaker B: to think about this. You're building, you're building this to keep adding on.
[00:02:50] Speaker A: Correct.
[00:02:51] Speaker B: You don't want to buy this and then you got to buy a duplicate.
[00:02:54] Speaker A: Correct.
[00:02:54] Speaker B: You want to buy something that you can keep adding on. So toolbox with the shelf is valuable
[00:03:00] Speaker A: and, and, and, and straight up. Like if you're going to go in there, what we're going to talk about just to have something for basic. I'm going tell you right now. Walmart. You can get it all at Walmart.
[00:03:07] Speaker B: You can, you sure can.
[00:03:07] Speaker A: All of it.
[00:03:08] Speaker B: All of it.
[00:03:09] Speaker A: Everything we about to say that you should basically have in your house, you can get it all at Walmart.
[00:03:12] Speaker B: That is not a bad place to start. You can do Walmart, you can do Harbor Freight, you could do most stores but as far as reasonable pricing to just go get it and get assistance, I would say Walmart as well. So we're going two a box or two a bag. And then to me, hammer, hammer. If you can, if you can, you tell me if I'm wrong. The hammer I think should be one that is also.
That has the metal, the magnet. The magnet on the backside for the, for the nail. For the nail.
[00:03:42] Speaker A: I mean if you, you don't.
How many ounces. How many ounces are, are you. I mean if it's a framing hammer. Sure. Like if you're gonna do a framing hammer, anywhere from 19 to 21 ounces on the hammer. Yeah, that's what you wanna do. But if, if it's just a basic hammer at the house. Nah.
[00:03:56] Speaker B: You don't think so. Okay, I would.
[00:03:58] Speaker A: But I mean just, you could set it. But I mean most of the stuff you're gonna be putting in the wall, like that, that little magnet on top of the hammer, that's that's pretty much for framing spots to nail it.
[00:04:08] Speaker B: Got you.
[00:04:09] Speaker A: But like as far as the house is already built. It's already there. Yeah, basic. Yeah, basic ham. Basic hammer.
[00:04:15] Speaker B: 10, 10 to 12 ounces when it comes to screwdriver. Okay, do you want. Should we go the individual one or should we get them the single where it's reversible, where by default has the
[00:04:27] Speaker A: Phillips and the flathead individual. Okay, one Phillips, one Phillips and one flathead. Because one, you're going to get that one that, that's interchangeable.
[00:04:35] Speaker B: Right.
[00:04:35] Speaker A: One you're going to. Is that an individual flathead? An individual, an individual Phillips head. Those screwdrivers are going to be cheaper.
[00:04:43] Speaker B: That is true.
[00:04:44] Speaker A: Those are going to be cheaper than getting the whole automatic one that flips up and down. I'm just, I'm trying to get the basic ones, but as long as you got that in there. And sometimes when you do have those reversible ones, especially because like how we saying we ain't trying to break the bank. So if you, if you get those ones, sometimes those ones that are a little cheap, they slide out. The little, little things pop off the stuff in there. But if you have a straight Phillips head screwdriver, it stays consistent. It stays like a Phillips head or it stays like a flathead.
[00:05:09] Speaker B: This is why I wanted to talk to you about. These are the details folks that you need to know about because that's the big difference. Because if you have the cheap one that just flips and flips, you flip it and you flip it down and it comes off and you don't know when it came off because you can't.
[00:05:22] Speaker A: And they like this little.
[00:05:24] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. Okay, so we're going your standard Philips, standard flathead. Standard flathead. Okay, we got the hammer. Okay. Now let's talk about certain accessories, but I think they're valuable. Tape measure.
[00:05:36] Speaker A: That's a tool.
100, 100 is a tool.
Tape measure. And it. At least, at least, at the very minimum, at least 16ft. Yes, at least 16. And I'm gonna tell people why. Because most things will be eight feet that you're going to need. Your wall stands up 8ft tall. Your, your studs, when you buy studs in a house, whatever, 8ft tall, like things are going to do when you're separating things out. You know, you got 16 inches. That's four inches, you see. But get at least, at least 16. It's a 16 footer that can sit in there. It's not a big, it's not real bulky.
[00:06:09] Speaker B: It doesn't have to be one of those.
[00:06:10] Speaker A: Not expensive.
[00:06:11] Speaker B: That dog on. You can click one button to lock it, click another button to reset. You don't need all that. Just a standard 16. I agree with that. I agree with that.
Box cutter.
[00:06:20] Speaker A: Yes, 100%.
[00:06:21] Speaker B: Okay. That some people think that's a necessary. To me, I'm like, that is a tool.
[00:06:25] Speaker A: No, that's a tool.
[00:06:26] Speaker B: Because there's a big difference between using house scissors and using a box cutter when you're out in the garage.
[00:06:30] Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
[00:06:31] Speaker B: I even.
Not to get off topic, I done damn near went and got separate scissors for my garage, bro.
[00:06:39] Speaker A: I have a whole separate kit that has box cutter type, you know, the razor blade type cuts that have all. I have all different types of blades for all different types of projects.
[00:06:48] Speaker B: But that's when you get advanced.
[00:06:49] Speaker A: But to start, yeah, you need a regular box cutter.
[00:06:51] Speaker B: Simple. Just slides up and it has a lock on it. And slide it down.
[00:06:54] Speaker A: It helps getting rid of cardboard in the house. You can cut it down little to where you can. You can store more into the. Into your recycle bin, like open your
[00:07:00] Speaker B: box up for whatever project you got to build a bookshelf or whatever. Just slide it. Don't gotta worry about cutting your hands because cardboard is dead.
[00:07:07] Speaker A: It's easier to cut Sheetrock with a. With a straight blade.
[00:07:10] Speaker B: It is, yeah. All right. Next thing on my list, I had.
Actually, that does it for me as far as hand tools, really.
I feel like you tell. And what am I missing?
[00:07:23] Speaker A: Let's see. Crescent wrench.
[00:07:26] Speaker B: Oh, okay. Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay. Yeah, yeah. Okay.
[00:07:29] Speaker A: Sorry.
[00:07:29] Speaker B: I'm not done with the full. My bad, my bad, my bad.
[00:07:32] Speaker A: And I say crescent wrench because the crescent wrench, I mean, you could get a socket set if you wanted to. You can go get a socket set when you get tans. You get twenties on all that. All the way down metric, you can get a regular size.
[00:07:41] Speaker B: But I feel like a socket set that's doing too much.
[00:07:44] Speaker A: And it's. And it's a little expensive.
[00:07:45] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:07:45] Speaker A: And that's why I say crescent, because the crescent is adjustable. It's an adjustable wrench. So you can do different sizes on the nuts and stuff like that. And you have something that can at least do that.
[00:07:53] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:07:54] Speaker A: Crescent wrench.
[00:07:54] Speaker B: I agree with that. Yes. Get one that notice everything aside from the Phillips and the flathead, These are all things that are adjustable.
[00:08:02] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:08:03] Speaker B: Until you know what you really are going to need on an everyday basis or where me and THC are at, where you just Got to have that goddamn one awkward ass measurement.
But for the most part. Crescent wrench. I think it's going to open as wide as you need, as small as you need. All right, the crescent wrench. Where else was I going wrong?
[00:08:23] Speaker A: Channel lock pliers.
[00:08:25] Speaker B: Yes, pliers.
[00:08:25] Speaker A: And this is the thing, this is what I'm saying about the channel locks.
[00:08:29] Speaker B: Because there are different ones. Are you talking.
[00:08:31] Speaker A: I'm talking about the ones that get open, they open like this. The teeth, they get longer. They get so the teeth can grab like this where they're normal pliers. But if you take one side of it and you pull it out, you, you can pull it down. And now the teeth get like that. So the channel locks. And the reason why I say channel locks or just a good pair of pliers that have the opening in the middle.
[00:08:48] Speaker B: I was going to ask you that. If you want the opening.
[00:08:50] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:08:50] Speaker B: You don't want it to be flat,
[00:08:51] Speaker A: you want it to be a little. But it had. But it can grab the teeth. And the reason why I say that is because like hose lines outside, water hose, washer, dish washer from washer and dryer in the thing. In order to take those things off order to screw them on tight enough, you got to have that thing with you.
[00:09:07] Speaker B: I messed around and I lost my dog on.
I lost my sprinkler head pliers and I had to use my regular ones. And luckily the hole in the middle was small enough to. So yeah, those are valuable. I got a pair that gosh, I've had for years and I ain't throwing them away either.
[00:09:22] Speaker A: Yeah, but that's another one. Those ones, regular flat needle nose pliers. Needle nose.
[00:09:29] Speaker B: Needle nose. So there is a difference? Yes, there is a difference. Cause needle noses are going to be more for longer holes to reach trying to get stuff out.
[00:09:38] Speaker A: And you always think though, and I'm telling you something, no matter what you're doing, you could be hanging pictures, you could be doing something in the garage. And for some reason now you need some needle nose pliers. And it's always the time that you need it is when you never have them.
[00:09:49] Speaker B: Yup. Get everything in advance.
THC can probably attest to this. I'm also telling everybody this. I felt like it was needed. Cause I was that one person had to go to the store every time to get this extra thing. And guess what? I to walk past the damn set that was already preset and I was like, all I need is this and
[00:10:06] Speaker A: all I need is that.
[00:10:07] Speaker B: Nope, just get it all and you will not be disappointed.
[00:10:11] Speaker A: This is, and this is just regular like this. And everything I mention it right now is not expensive. But you can get all, you can get all of this at Walmart.
[00:10:16] Speaker B: Yeah, I. All that is easily maybe 25 bucks.
[00:10:20] Speaker A: I, I will, I will put something in there that you might think you'd be like, oh, okay, that's a little advanced for it. But these things are still cheap. They're still cheap to get and they are very valuable to people in, in their houses. And this is what, this is what I mean by. It's torpedo levels. A level. Oh, something that comes in. You need a torpedo level.
[00:10:38] Speaker B: That was pictures. That was gonna be on my next.
[00:10:41] Speaker A: Okay, okay, okay.
[00:10:43] Speaker B: Oh, a level is.
[00:10:45] Speaker A: Oh yeah.
[00:10:45] Speaker B: Just needed pictures.
[00:10:47] Speaker A: Anything that's going on, cabinets construction, double
[00:10:50] Speaker B: hand one, you can get one that is literally that freaking big.
[00:10:53] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:10:53] Speaker B: That's all you need. I would say make sure that it's at least it has a magnet on one end. To me, I feel like no matter the size, just make sure it is magnetic that it can hold on another magnet.
[00:11:05] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:11:05] Speaker B: Yeah, that's my only, the only little bougie thing I guess I'll say about it is make sure it has a magnetic side in case you hang some stuff up sideways.
[00:11:14] Speaker A: I've got like four different levels.
I have a torpedo level, I have a laser two foot level. I have a regular two foot level. And, and then I have a four foot level that, that I use because I mean, I was a framer though. I was a framer.
[00:11:26] Speaker B: Yeah, you're a different breed. Like I said, this is why we call it.
[00:11:28] Speaker A: That's what I'm saying. And then that's what I said. Like the starter kit should have a torpedo level. Like there should be a small. Yeah, little torpedo level.
It should have a 45 degree bubble and it should have a 90 degree. It should have it to where it's like straight level and it should have a 45 in case you need to turn it to that angle.
[00:11:44] Speaker B: It should have at least two. I think most of them have the three, but at minimum, 45. 180. Yeah, 180. Flatline. Okay.
For me this is, this is where we kind of get a little bit advanced, but I think you need it.
[00:11:58] Speaker A: What's that?
[00:12:00] Speaker B: A drill.
[00:12:00] Speaker A: Oh, 100% cordless.
[00:12:02] Speaker B: You gotta have. Yes. Cordless drill.
[00:12:04] Speaker A: Cordless, Yep.
[00:12:04] Speaker B: Now this is where I, this is where I say it gets dicey. I think you need to just invest in just the drill. I don't think you need to get the trick triple.
Triple set, where it's the drill, the compact drill, and then the mine came with the saw. Okay, I don't think you should get that. I think you should get the individual. Would you agree or disagree with that as a starter kit setup to just get the individual drill itself?
No, you think you should just get that. And then.
[00:12:39] Speaker A: So what you do is that if.
[00:12:42] Speaker B: See, it's tough.
[00:12:43] Speaker A: Well, you only get what you need to get. Like, if you know you're not going to use the Sawzall, then you don't need to get the kit that's got the Sawzall.
[00:12:49] Speaker B: Right.
[00:12:49] Speaker A: So if, if you. And if that's the truth, you don't need a Sawzall and you don't need the, the, the. What is it? The, the ratchet.
The impact. The impact was. So it comes with the impact. The regular screw gun and the, and the Sawzall. And if you don't need the impact or the Sawzall, then yeah, just go get you the. Go get you this stuff. But I will recommend getting another battery and another battery charger.
[00:13:11] Speaker B: Oh, oh, yes, yes, that's.
[00:13:14] Speaker A: And that's what a lot of people don't get does you get if you're going to get the drill. And if you go to Walmart, you got what you got. You got the brand that I use.
[00:13:21] Speaker B: Oh, you're a hypertuff.
[00:13:22] Speaker A: Hypertuff.
[00:13:23] Speaker B: And then there's.
[00:13:23] Speaker A: And there's heart. Yeah. And. And I'm a time there's people out there talking about, oh, they probably. Oh, what about Richard and DeWalt? You talking about this Walmart stuff? Look, man, we just giving basic, Basic starter kit. Yeah.
[00:13:33] Speaker B: And also, ain't nobody building a damn house.
[00:13:35] Speaker A: The house is already built. They just trying to hang a picture. You know what I'm saying? Like, you don't need. They try and take out a picture, they try and take out a screw. They trying to do something like. Yeah, they're not doing construction.
[00:13:43] Speaker B: Don't let your friends either make you think you got.
[00:13:45] Speaker A: No, you don't have to.
[00:13:47] Speaker B: Tools are valuable at Walmart.
[00:13:49] Speaker A: And I would even go as far as saying that you don't even need to get like the, the kits that are there now. If you want to, you can spend money like if you go to Home Depot or Lowe's and you can spend money on the attachments that go to the drill. Like the. Yeah, the screwdriver fronts, the, the blades, the drill bits, all that drill bits. They sell them in kits that are with the Good brands. And those things can still be used inside of any Walmart hybrid stuff. It doesn't matter.
[00:14:12] Speaker B: But yeah, I agree with THC me. I would say, especially if you. If you're in an apartment, all you need is a damn drill. Yeah, I will say that.
[00:14:19] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:14:19] Speaker B: But get you two batteries. You got to.
[00:14:22] Speaker A: You got to.
[00:14:23] Speaker B: It comes with one.
[00:14:23] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:14:24] Speaker B: Just buy the extra and the extra. And all you need is the. I think it's the 2.5 volt.
[00:14:30] Speaker A: Well, yep.
[00:14:30] Speaker B: You don't need. You don't need a big diesel one.
[00:14:33] Speaker A: I got 35 volts.
[00:14:34] Speaker B: I got one of those, boy.
[00:14:35] Speaker A: Yeah, but just blow up your tires, right.
[00:14:37] Speaker B: Your car, sit there saying, I'm more advanced.
[00:14:39] Speaker A: You be like, watch.
[00:14:42] Speaker B: All you need is like that big gotcha. 2.5 volt. It lasts an hour and a half. That's why you get a second one.
[00:14:49] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:14:49] Speaker B: Because you'll have three hours of work you can do. If you're going past three hours, you need to go back to YouTube and figure out what project you're working on because you did it wrong.
[00:14:56] Speaker A: You're going to need a pencil in that toolbox.
[00:14:58] Speaker B: Yes, you need a pencil.
Okay, how about this? We got a box cutter.
What about.
Oh, an actual knife.
[00:15:09] Speaker A: What kind of knife?
[00:15:09] Speaker B: So again, I might be bougie. I have a box cutter and I actually have a, like, pencil. It's a pencil and it also is a knife to mark.
[00:15:20] Speaker A: Nah, you don't. That's not a knife you don't need.
[00:15:22] Speaker B: I'm being bougie.
[00:15:23] Speaker A: I'm being extra. That's bougie. Yeah, that's bougie.
[00:15:24] Speaker B: That's what happens when you now got a house.
I'm adding extra access.
[00:15:28] Speaker A: You already got all the rest of the stuff. Like, what else can I buy? That's where we at now.
[00:15:32] Speaker B: I'm asking. I'm asking.
[00:15:34] Speaker A: It's like I'm the same way too. I'm like, what else can I get there?
[00:15:36] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:15:37] Speaker A: Can I use my little knife? Pencil. Yes.
[00:15:39] Speaker B: But I think I would say that just about. I believe that covers it. I'm trying to think of my shelf that I got. Yeah, I got the impact you got to have. That you got to have.
[00:15:47] Speaker A: Well, you said what talked about screwdrivers.
[00:15:49] Speaker B: Screwdrivers, box cutters. Box cutter, tape measure, level,
[00:15:55] Speaker A: crescent wrench,
[00:15:56] Speaker B: needle noses, needle, nose hammer, obviously.
[00:15:59] Speaker A: Hammer. Yep.
[00:16:01] Speaker B: I think that I feel like that covers it.
[00:16:03] Speaker A: That's almost. Yeah, that's almost pretty much the bait. Like the theness, the bare necessity. The bare necessity. If you have at least that you can do some damage and maintain and stuff.
[00:16:12] Speaker B: If I had to guess, that is gonna run you 60 bucks.
[00:16:17] Speaker A: Maybe if you go to Walmart. Yeah. I bet you can get all of what we said.
[00:16:20] Speaker B: Thing is gonna be. The drip.
[00:16:21] Speaker A: I bet you we can get it for like, 40. You can get it for like, $40. Everything that we just.
Okay.
[00:16:26] Speaker B: The double battery.
[00:16:27] Speaker A: That's why the drill and the double battery. Yeah, the drill might run you about 25, 30 bucks. And then the double battery be like. Like 25 bucks for the extra battery.
[00:16:34] Speaker B: That's why I said 60.
[00:16:35] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:16:36] Speaker B: That Walmart now.
[00:16:37] Speaker A: But if you don't put in that drill. Oh. And you just decide you want to be strong and you just want to turn with the regular thing. Hey, by all means.
[00:16:45] Speaker B: Then you.
